Location Capabilities

Even without a clear line of sight to the sky or in congested areas, Altair chips are equipped with Cell ID technology. This feature uses LTE network connectivity to identify the device’s approximate location based on the LTE cell towers it connects to. It’s a straightforward, low-power solution for scenarios where approximate location is sufficient — with accuracy at the level of hundreds of meters.

Many assets travel through several checkpoints during their journey, including indoor locations not visible to satellite systems. To provide a consistent location experience, the ALT1350 SoC incorporates a WiFi positioning solution, enabling trackers to provide reliable location information both indoors and outdoors. This capability allows location service providers to accurately track assets continuously and maximize value for their customers.

For use cases requiring greater accuracy, Altair chips include an integrated GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver. Whether your device requires outdoor tracking or navigation in urban environments, the integrated GNSS provides precise positioning with no extra components required.

For applications where accuracy is not optional — such as mission-critical emergency response systems — our chips can be paired with Sony’s advanced low-power GNSS chips. These deliver continuous, highly accurate location data independent of the LTE connection, fully concurrent with cellular connectivity.
